LeBron James to Win 2013 NBA MVP Award May 03, 2013 21:06

We've been eagerly watching as the NBA spread out the announcements of their Kia player awards for the 2013 NBA season. We've already had the Rookie of the Year (Damian Lillard), Defensive Player of the Year (Marc Gasol), Most Improved Player of the Year (Paul George) and the Sixth Man of the Year (J.R. Smith).

The real award that we've all been waiting for is the 2013 NBA MVP, and not necessarily because we thought there would be any surprises. I think we all knew who was getting the award this year.

On Sunday, the NBA will official name LeBron James as the 2013 regular season MVP, for the 4th time. This is LeBron's second MVP award on the trot, and his 4th in the past 5 years.

Other players to have at least 4 MVP awards include Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Not a bad selection of players.

LeBron will receive the award at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, as the Miami Heat start the second round of the NBA Playoffs. David Stern will be in town to make the presentation.

Other players which might alas have been in the running were Chris Paul of the LA Clippers, and Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

LeBron has averages 26.8 points, 8 rebounds, 7.3 assists, 1.7 steals and 1 block per game this season. He has shot his best career percentage from the field (.565) and from 3-point range (.406).

LeBron's coach at the Heat, Eric Spolestra said of James' achievement; "He's earned it. He's having an even more historic season than he's had the last two years. Most people probably didn't think he could go to a higher level after last season, yet he reinvented himself to show that he could. Our pinch-ourselves moment was when we signed him. But since we've had him, we don't take him for granted."

Think he's going to grab another NBA ring, and challenge for Playoffs MVP as well? Check out the "Hi Haters" Tee from K1X - the King at his best.
