Christmas Day NBA Round-Up 2012: Oklahoma City Thunder vs Miami Heat December 27, 2012 14:38
The third, and last of the NBA Christmas Day games to be shown on ESPN UK was the Oklahoma City Thunder vs the Miami Heat, with the two teams reliving the 2011/2012 NBA Finals match up for the first time this season.
The Miami came out blazing, taking a 15 to 5 point lead after just 5 minutes of play. It took the Thunder a little while to get switched on, but once they did, they went on a 6 to 0 run to bring the score to 15 - 11. Dwayne Wade broke the short Thunder streak with a short range jumper.
As well as looking forward to LeBron James and Wade going up against Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, we were looking forward to what they were going to have on their feet.
Wade's kicks were really Christmasy for this one, wearing and red and green metallic number for the first half from the Li-Ning Way of the Wade collection.
Wade's teammate, LeBron, was rocking equally festive footwear from the Nike LeBron X range, again in red and green.
It was Mario Chalmers, of the Heat, who really shone in the first quarter. He picked up 12 points in the 1st to help his team to a 27 - 24 lead over the Thunder.
Before this game, LeBron hadn't been called for a foul in 6 games. He picked up his first foul in the early part of the 1st quarter, and then picked up a technical foul with just seconds left on the clock. Kevin Durant had also picked up a technical foul in the first quarter for protesting to the referee.
Durant continued to get into foul trouble in the 2nd quarter, sitting down with 3 fouls with 3:09 left on the clock. The Thunder stayed in the game though, trailing Miami by just 6 points, with Miami up 54 - 48.
LeBron had 19 points and 6 rebounds in the first half of this game, being typically dominant for the Heat.
Durant came back in the 3rd quarter, showing off his Nike Zoom KD V, and helped the Thunder to take the lead at 58 - 56 with just 5 minutes played. His Christmas edition shoes were certainly colourful, and in-keeping with the Thunder's blue uniform.
Russell Westbrook was also rocking a blue pair of kicks. He was wearing a customised pair of the Jordan XX8 shoes, that had most sneakerheads reeling in horror.
Even in blue, these shoes still look seriously ugly.
The 3rd quarter came to an end with the Heat up 74 - 72.
With Durant and LeBron both on the bench at the start of the 4th, Westbrook gets into a tussle with Shane Battier. Battier attempted a nasty looking block on Westbrook, who was on fast break after he stole the ball from Wade. Battier got a Flagrant 1 foul.
The scores were tied at 79 after 3 minutes, and two free-throws from Durant, giving him 24 points.
Mario Chalmers was back in, and continuing to have a great game. He put up 5 points, which followed 2 free-throws from Dwayne Wade, and that 7 point lead on the Thunder was all that the Heat needed to bring this game to a close.
Kevin Durant scored 33 points in the game, but missed a 3-pointer in the dying seconds that would have tied the game. Instead, Westbrook ended up with a technical foul with 1.4 seconds left on the game clock. Ray Allen sunk the technical free throw, and Dwayne Wade knocked down another 2 shots from the charity stripe, with the game finishing 103 - 97 to the Heat.
Notably, Mike Miller surpassed 10,000 career points and LeBron James had over 20 points (29 to be exact) for the 25th game running.
