The Cheshire BBL basketball club has been given a new name by the club's fans. The formerly Cheshire Jets, will now be known as the Cheshire Phoenix .
The name change has come about as a result of the former club owner, Haydn Cook, having trademarked the name 'Cheshire Jets'. Cook recently sold the trademark to a sports agency called HarvardGlobal, leaving the club without a name.
Fans of the Cheshire team were given the ability to vote on a new name, at last nights game against the Manchester Giants. The result of that vote means that the fans will now follow the Cheshire Phoenix.
The Cheshire club has been in serious financial trouble this year, with business partners pulling out, and funding dwindling. Their future still hangs in the balance, as they have just 11 days left to raise £50,000 in order to bid for the franchise from the BBL.
The Phoenix will take on the Newcastle Eagles, this Friday, at Sports Central.
