Ibaka Signs 4-Year $48 million Extension August 20, 2012 21:16

The Oklahoma City Thunder have this week re-signed defensive specialist, Serge Ibaka, to a $48 million, four year extension.

The Thunder now have Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and Kendrick Perkins as well as Ibaka tied up for long term contracts, taking up a huge part of the Thunder's salary budget.

This means that players like James Harden, who was awarded last year's Sixth Man of the Year award, might not be able to fit within the teams salary cap. Ibaka recently won a silver medal playing for the Spanish National team at the London 2012 Olympics, where they were beaten in the final by the USA,107-100.

Last season for the Thunder, Ibaka averaged 9.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and led the league in blocked shots per game, with 3.6. Oklahoma's General Manager Sam Presti was quoted in the press as having said, ''At 23 years old (by the time next season starts), we really do expect his best basketball to be in front of him."
