We're a step closer to the new BBL season, as more signings are announced by teams around the league.
Glasgow Rocks Sign Meneptha Darden
The Glasgow Rocks have announced the signing of a new big man for their squad. Meneptha Darden is a 6'9" centre from Rogers State University, where he led his team in rebounds and blocked shots.
The Rocks are making all the right moves in putting together a potentially strong squad this season, in their quest to secure their first silverware since the 2002/03 season. A solid big man has been something that has alluded the team in recent years.
At only 24 years old, this will be the America's first pro season, and when interviewed by the BBL website, coach Sterling Davis was quoted as saying: “This guy is hungry to make a name for himself and I feel that he has not been given enough opportunity to prove his worth as yet. Hopefully he will come in and bring everything I envision of him to our team.”
The Glasgow Rocks will be playing a pre-season game against Team USA Select on the 9th September at their old Kelvin Hall stomping ground. After that, their games will be played at the brand new Commonwealth Arena, starting with a home game on the 7th October against the Newcastle Eagles.
Newcastle Eagles Re-Sign Joel Madourie
Joel Madourie, the 6'5" power forward from Birmingham, will be making a come back for the Newcastle Eagles this season.
Madourie struggled with injuries at the beginning of last season, and played very few minutes up until the last few games, where he was able to put in an average of 18 points and 7 rebounds.
Big things are expected of Madourie this season, as he has grown in confidence and experience in this league, and can hopefully see more time on the floor, and more output to help keep his team on top.
The Eagles are also going to be playing a pre-season game against Team USA Select, as part of an Eagles Tournament on the 10th and 11th September.
