As the new British Basketball League (BBL) season fast approaches, teams are keen to iron out their roster, and also to see what the competition is putting together to challenge for the 2012/13 title.
Newcastle Eagles Sign Kareem Maddox
Earlier in the week it was announced that the Newcastle Eagles had signed their second Ivy League baller, in the form of Kareem Maddox (pictured right). The 23 year old, 6'8" power forward, played division 1 college basketball in America for the Princeton Tigers, being named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year when he was a senior.
Maddox spent his first year of professional basketball playing for Landstede Zwolle in Holland with Damon Huffman, the other Ivy League American that has signed with the Eagles for the upcoming season. Maddox comes in to replace Andrew Thomson, who left the Eagles for French club La Rochelle.
Plymouth Raiders Pick up Matt Schneck
The Plymouth Raiders have also been busy getting their roster together, having now signed 6'8" Matt Schneck from the Cheshire Jets. Schneck is the 5th player to confirm his place on the team for this season, following in the footsteps of the likes of Colin O'Reilly who also moved from the Jets to the Raiders for the upcoming season, and Jeremy Bell who made the move last season.
Glasgow Rocks Bring Back Brice Fantazia
The Glasgow Rocks are looking to have a strong backcourt this season, having re-signed 6'4" guard Brice Fantazia. Fantazia was initially part of the Rocks squad in 2010/11, before spending a year playing ball in Portugal.
Having had difficulties with injuries in his first season with the Rocks, Head Coach, Sterling Davis, is sure that Rocks fans have yet to see the best of Fantazia, especially considering that he has be able to get a years experience playing in Europe under his belt.
More breaking news of signings is expected over the coming weeks, as we look forward to another season of exciting BBL action!
