USA Women Defeat Team GB in Manchester July 18, 2012 21:43
The USA Women's basketball team have beaten the British Women's team in a pre-Olympic friendly match in Manchester tonight. The final score was 88 - 63, with Jo Leedham leading all scorers with 21 points for Team GB.
Team GB came out strong in the first quarter, leading 21 - 12 with just over 2 minutes left to go. The British ladies really worked inside to get easy points early on against a bigger and more athletic USA side, surprising many of the critics, and no doubt the USA team, which is ranked No.1 in the world (GB are 49th).
By half time, the USA had pulled the game back and led 47 - 32. The US really turned up the pressure in the second half, deploying close to a full court press and double teaming to force GB to turn the ball over.
Maya Moore was the top scorer for Team USA with 18 points, leading her team to the 25 point win.
The Men's GB Team will take on Team USA tomorrow night in Manchester, in front of what will be a sold out crowd.
Despite the loss tonight, Team GB are proving that they're going to fight for everything in this Olympics, and will probably surprise a lot of their critics along the way.
