Charles Smith Re-Signs With The Eagles July 14, 2012 19:00

The Newcastle Eagles announced this week that Eagles star, Charles Smith, has re-signed with the team for the upcoming 2012-13 season.

Smith, 36, returns for another season with the Tyneside team which won all four trophies last season in the British Basketball League (BBL). He picked up MVP awards in the finals of the BBL Cup and the BBL Play-off Final.

Last season for the Eagles, Smith averaged 17.5 points on 45% shooting, to go with 5.1 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game.

Newcastle Eagles player/coach, Fab Flournoy isĀ ecstaticĀ that Smith has decided to stay with the Eagles for another season, saying, "It's fantastic to be signing Charles back to the club. He's been a key player in our success and he will play an instrumental role in helping us to retain last season's form. Charles was a double MVP last season, in both the Cup and Play-Off Finals. He is our man for the big games, when in doubt we find Charles Smith and the Prince delivers!"

The Eagles are still hoping to tie up a few more signings in the off season, after losing big man Andrew Thompson, who has decided to play in France next season.
