Hornets Waive Rashard Lewis July 02, 2012 19:52

The New Orleans Hornets have waived power forward, Rashard Lewis; buying out his large contract which included a £13.7 buyout provision for the last year.
The Hornets received the former Orlando Magic star, when the Washington Wizards traded him along with 46th pick in this years draft, in return for Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza.

The 6'10'' Lewis was about to enter the final year of his $118 million, six-year contract, which he originally signed with the Magic, in 2007.

Last year with the Wizards, Lewis struggled with knee injuries limiting him to only 28 games. He still averaged 7.8 points and 3.9 rebounds.

He holds career averages of 16.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists.
