Team GB Lose 76-52 Against Russia in Warm-up June 29, 2012 15:24

Great Britain forward, Joel Freeland scored a game high 18 points, in the 76-52 loss against the mighty Russians last night in Houston. 

Team GB started the game off strong even though they are playing without NBA player, Luol Deng, who is resting his injured wrist. GB went into half time leading 28-26 against a strong Russian side, which are currently ranked, 11th in the world.

Russia came out in the second half all guns blazing as former NBA star, Andrei Kirilenko, led his team on a 9-0 run, with the help of Denver Nuggets center, Timofey Mozgov.

The Russians continued there assault on GB in the third quarter, ended it up by 10 points, 51-41. GB never recovered after that, losing the fourth quarter by 14 points. Kirilenko top scored for Russia with 16 points.

Freeland, finished the game with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Pops Mensah-Bonshu made his first appearance for Britain this summer, playing 10 minutes and scoring 2 points. Dan Clark chipped in with 10 points.

After the game, Andrei Kirilenko said, ''The first half was very tough and I think it shows the potential of the Great Britain team. They can play basketball, good quality basketball.''

The loss to Russia means that GB is yet to win a warm-up game in four attempts. GB next play Lithuania on Friday in Houston.
