Manchester Giants and The East London Royals Join The BBL June 24, 2012 14:43

This week, the British Basketball League (BBL), added the Manchester Giants and the East London Royals to the top league in British basketball, for the upcoming 2012/13 season.

The East London Royals will be the only team playing within London next season, after no teams have played from the capital in previous years.

Newcastle Eagles Managing Director and BBL Chairman, Paul Blake said, "We are delighted to welcome two new clubs to the BBL next season and are particularly pleased that the location of the new clubs map our own Franchise Development Plan, including a team in one of the Olympic Boroughs. We wish them every success both off and on the court".

Manchester Giants Head Coach, Jeff Jones, wants his team to make an impression in the league next season. Jones says, "I am absolutely delighted to be back coaching the Manchester Giants - it has been a long term ambition of mine to bring a professional basketball franchise back to Manchester and we're aiming to hit the ground running and introduce a competitive team to the league, with a good balance of home grown talent with more experienced players."

The BBL now has 13 teams competing in Britain's top league for the 2012/13, providing no-one withdraws before the season starts.
