Garbelotto Quits Tigers For German Team Heidelberg May 29, 2012 22:27
Tony Garbelotto has left the Mersey Tigers, the team he helped guide to a British Basketball League title two seasons ago, to join German Pro A side Heidelberg.
Garbelotto's last season with the Liverpool team was one to forget, after his side struggled to a 10-20 record, finishing second from bottom of the table for the season.
“Last year was disappointing,” Garbelotto said. “The biggest issue was not being able to bring back all of that group and defend our trophies. It was frustrating not to build on what we had with that team."
The Tigers waved goodbye to Garbelotto this week as he headed for his new home in Germany. Of the transition Garbelotto has been quoted as saying, “It’s always tough to break into another league. I met with the GM [in Heidelberg] last month and I got a really good feel for what they want to do. There’s already a good infrastructure and a very professional set-up."
The Mersey Tigers are now looking for a new coach at a time when the future of the club is unclear at best.
