Basketball Groups Drawn for the London 2012 Olympics April 30, 2012 16:37

The groups have been announced for the basketball tournaments for the London 2012 Olympic Games, being held in London later this year. 
The draw was eagerly awaited by fans around the world, so that they could see who their country or team would be drawn against for the opening round of the Olympics. 
The results were drawn in Brazil today, and the field was divided into two groups, each with six teams who will play off in the preliminary round this Summer.  The top four teams from each group will then go forward in a classic knock-out tournament to reveal the medal winners.
The basketball groups look like this:
Group A
  • Argentina
  • France
  • Tunisia
  • USA
  • And 2 more.
Group B
  • Australia
  • Brazil
  • China
  • Great Britain
  • Spain
  • And 1 more.
There is still one final qualifying tournament, which will be played from the 2-8 June in Caracas, Venezuela, which will decide the final 3 teams to make it into the Olympics. 
The teams left to battle it out are:

  • Dominican Republic
  • Greece
  • Jordan
  • Korea
  • Lithuania
  • New Zealand
  • Nigeria
  • Puerto Rico
  • Russia
  • Venezuela
The Olympic basketball games will take place from 28th July, through to the 12 August at the Olympic Basketball Arena and the North Greenwich Arena in London.
