City of Edinburgh Kings Invited to Play in the BBL Cup Competition October 16, 2011 12:38

A new decision by the BBL sees that the Glasgow Rocks won't be the only Scottish team to be suiting up for some BBL action this season.

The BBL have announced that the City of Edinburgh Kings SM have accepted an invite to play in the BBL cup competition this season, and what's more, their first game will be against....the Glasgow Rocks!

The first round clash of the BBL cup will take place on the 30th October at Kelvin Hall.

The Kings currently play in the Scottish Basketball League (SBL) and are currently top of their division, and have won the SBL 8 out of the past 9 times.

Rocks General Manager Daniel Bajwoluk enthused, “We are genuinely thrilled at the prospect of playing the Edinburgh Kings in the first round of the BBL Cup. The Kings are the team to beat within the Scottish National Basketball League, and it will be interesting to see how the two premier Scottish teams fair against one another come 30th October. It is sure to be a local derby that many Scottish fans will be eager to witness.”

The teams have met once in BBL Competition previously, with the Rocks coming out on top when the two sides meet in the pool stages of the 2006-7 BBL Trophy.
