GB Rack Up First Win in London Olympic 2012 Test Event August 20, 2011 19:51
Finally, GB have managed to chalk up a win in the London 2012 Olympic test event; beating China 64-56 at the Olympic Park in London.
Typically the GB team have been coming out strong at the start of their games, then generally tailing off towards the end. This game against Chine proved to follow suit in terms of Team GB's early performance. In the first half of the game against China, GB were strong under the basket, taking a 32-26 lead over the visitors.
The game saw the event debut for the Chicago Bulls, NBA star Luol Deng, which certainly made a difference to the entire GB team performance. Deng scored 15 points in the game to help GB hold onto their half-time lead and eventually win, in what was still a tough game for the team.
Depsite Deng's appearance, the leading scorer for GB was still Joel Freedland, who came out with 18 points, and only being outscored by China's Jianlian Yi who chalked up 20 points on the night.
GB captain, Drew Sillivan, missed the game due to an injury, but despite missing one of their bigger men, GB still put up a great defensive effort which undoubtedly helped the team to their first win in the tournament.
GB have one game left again Australia, which takes place on Sunday.
