Dirk Nowitzki Receives Top German Sports Award August 28, 2011 19:50

We love Dirk Nowitzki, and aren't afraid to say it. Neither are the German people.

Dirk Nowitzki hit the heights of stardom in the NBA last season by leading his Dallas Mavericks team to success in the NBA Play-offs. Now he has been awarded Germany's highest honour for sport; receiving the Silver Laurel Leaf from the German President, Christian Wulff.

Nowitzki has high hopes of representing his country in the 2012 London Olympics, and will be getting a good run out for his country this week as he takes part in the European Championship in Lithuania.

The two finalists form the European Championships get automatic qualification for the Olympics next year, so a lot is at stake for Nowitzki and German basketball as a whole.
